Hugo Ekitike has been the standout summer signing for Liverpool this season scoring 11 goals and providing one assist in all competitions so far. Proving the young French striker is adapting to the premier league well.
Hugo Ekitike signed from Frankfurt in the summer of 2025 where he came to Liverpool after his breakout season getting thirty-four goal contributions in just fourty-eight games. Ekitike spent his early moments of his career playing in Ligue 1 in France having stints at Reims and Paris Saint-Germain. Eventually leading to his big move to the Premier League from Frankfurt for a transfer fee worth around £79 million.
The striker has had an impressive December scoring five goals in four games in the premier league. With Alexander Isak now looking like he is out for much of the season due to the injury that he picked up in the game against Tottenham. Ekitike sees to be the obvious choice to fill in.
Arne Slot is impressed with Ekitke saying in a press conference that he “has so much in his locker”.
“Hugo is one of the players that fights till the last”. With the manager backing the striker and his confidence growing he will look to cement his spot on the team sheet. Ahead of Isak when he returns.
Wayne Rooney recently branded the striker as “the best signing of the summer window”. This is proved through the French striker’s incredible 7 goals after 10 premier league starts. He is level with Mohammed Salah and only one behind Daniel Sturridge for most goals for Liverpool after ten league starts. “He’s fast, he can score a goal, and he has great footwork” said Liverpool manager Arne Slott who is ever praising of the Frenchman.
Slot may have to alter his tactics to include Isak upon his return. Playing both in a 4-4-2 style formation due to both of their high quality. This has worked already this season with Slot trialling it in a few games such as the recent Spurs game. Ekitike plays a more central role whilst Isak is left to come in from his favoured left-hand side. It's clear the dynamics of the two playing can be balanced.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot says that “Hugo still needs to become stronger”. Slot's comments suggest he may not have fully adapted to the intensity of the Premier League. We still have a lot more to come from Ekitike. However, with other signings such as Florian Writz gaining confidence and improving as the season has progressed. Liverpool seem to be gaining confidence and gelling more as a team. Ekitike leading the frontline with the team of growing superstars around him, Liverpool is sure to score many more this season.
