It has been a whirlwind few years for Mirassol. Looking ahead, many are wondering what Mirassol 2026 will bring for the club and its supporters.
Looking ahead to the Mirassol 2026 Brasileirão and Libertadores campaign, fans are filled with anticipation about what the future holds. In 2020, they earned promotion from Serie D into Serie C.
Their first season at that level in 2021 proved difficult. Mirassol narrowly avoided relegation by three points, finishing just ahead of Parana.
However, 2022 marked a major turning point. Mirassol not only avoided relegation but went on to win the Série C title. This secured promotion to Série B in the process.

The club, nicknamed Leao da Alta Araraquarense, sealed promotion on the final day with a 1–0 victory over Chapecoense. This was thanks to a decisive goal from Iury Castilho in the first half of the match. Consequently, Mirassol would play top tier football for the first time in their history.
Mirassol’s historic 2025 Brasileirao campaign
Mirassol’s start to life in the Brasileirao was a tough one. Dudu and Gabriel Barbosa fired Cruzeiro into a 2-0 lead inside 22 minutes of their opening match.
However, Lucas Ramon managed to pull a goal back just before the break, offering Mirassol a glimmer of hope heading into half-time. Nevertheless, despite that timely response and a more spirited showing after the interval, Mirassol were ultimately unable to shift the momentum, going on to suffer a 2–1 defeat in their first-ever Brasileirao match.
Ultimately, despite briefly clawing their way back into the contest, Mirassol were unable to build on that momentum and, as a result, were forced to settle for a narrow defeat.
Nevertheless, while the scoreline marked a disappointing outcome, it also served as a valuable introduction to the intensity of the Brasileirao, offering lessons that will undoubtedly shape their approach as they move forward in their historic debut season.
That said, it is a long season in Brazil, and the response was encouraging. Mirassol went unbeaten across their next five matches, winning once and drawing the other four.
That sole victory proved historic, as they stunned giants Gremio with a 4-1 win. Daniel Borges and Reinaldo got on the scoresheet with two goals apiece.
That run of form was no fluke for Mirassol. After suffering a narrow defeat to Bragantino, they went on a nine-match unbeaten run. They won six and drew three, before losing 2-1 away to eventual champions Flamengo.
That stretch of form showed that Mirassol were not in Serie A simply to make up the numbers. They were here to compete, and they were here to challenge.
After the defeat to Flamengo and a draw with Cruzeiro, Mirassol won three matches in a row. This included a dismantling of Bahia in a 5-1 thumping.
They then completed a league double over Gremio with a 1-0 victory away in Porto Alegre. Before drawing with Botafogo, they claimed another win against Juventude.
A rare poor run of form saw Mirassol go three matches without a win. Yet they responded in style with four consecutive victories over Fluminense, Internacional, Sao Paulo and Sport Recife as their climb up the table continued.
They ended the season with three wins from their final eight matches. However, all the hard work done throughout the campaign not only saw Mirassol avoid relegation, but also remarkably secure automatic qualification for the 2025 Copa Libertadores group stage.
A stunning fourth-place finish completed one of the most remarkable stories in Brazilian football. This was for a side who were odds-on to be relegated before a ball had even been kicked.
The stats behind their magic
Mirassol ended the season unbeaten at home, recording 12 wins, seven draws and zero defeats. Champions Flamengo were the only other side who could boast an unbeaten home record. This made it a truly historic achievement for Mirassol and the best season ever recorded by a newly promoted side.
But they did not achieve this by simply sitting back. Mirassol were one of the most entertaining teams in the league, scoring 63 goals and conceding just 39. Even more remarkably, 38 of those goals came from open play. This highlighted that they did not rely solely on set pieces or counter-attacks.
Across the campaign, they averaged just over 50% possession. This underlined their desire to play attractive, front-foot football rather than adopt a purely defensive approach. Guanaes’ men were brave, progressive, and thoroughly entertaining.
The players behind their success
The key man behind their success was full-back Reinaldo, who played 34 matches. During that time, he scored 13 goals and provided six assists, in what was a standout campaign for the veteran.
For a full-back, his attacking output was nothing short of remarkable and played a huge role in Mirassol’s historic campaign.
Other key performers included: goalkeeper Walter, who was solid between the sticks. Another important defender was Lucas Ramon, highlighting just how effective Mirassol’s wide play was throughout the season.
Ramon contributed five goal involvements from the full-back position, scoring twice and providing three assists.
Negueba added seven goals and three assists, proving to be another important attacking outlet.
2026: Libertadores fever and the chance to surprise again
2026 promises to be another challenging and historic year for Mirassol. They must now prove to the doubters that they can handle competing on both the continental stage in the Copa Libertadores and domestically in the Brasileirao.
To prepare, Mirassol have brought in 13 new faces, with most arriving as free agents. The only player signed for a fee is William Machado from relegated Ceara.
Other standout additions include: Everton Galdino on loan from Tokyo FC, Igor Carius, Eduardo, Denilson, Andre Luis and Lucas Mugni. All are tasked with helping drive Mirassol forward.
It remains difficult to know exactly what to expect from Mirassol given the added demands on the squad. However, they have already proven time and time again that they can overcome the odds.
Can they do it again in what promises to be another historic campaign for the club from Sao Paulo?
