Victor Osimhen has thrown his weight behind Wilfred Ndidi following his appointment as captain of the Nigeria national team.
The confirmation of Ndidi as captain elicited differing opinions, with many finding the decision unfathomable, as they preferred Osimhen to receive the armband instead.
Their reason for standing behind Victor Osimhen for the leadership position was due to his outspoken nature and visible fighting spirit.
Despite the Galatasaray man coming off as confrontational to a divide, a spectrum of individuals believe he is the type of captain the Nigeria national team needs.
The best investment one can make is betting on themselves; however, Osimhen has taken a different path.
In an interview with Football Fans Tribe, Victor Osimhen poured out praise for his compatriot Wilfred Ndidi.
The 26-year-old highlighted the leadership qualities of Ndidi, before emphasizing that the ex-Premier League star is primed for the role.
Knowledge is power. Osimhen was also quick to reveal the influence William Troost-Ekong, Ahmed Musa and John Obi Mikel had on Wilfred Ndidi.
The forward said: “Wilfred is one of the leaders even when Ekong was our captain. I think he has also learned a lot from Ekong because Ekong is one of the best captains since I arrived here, alongside John Obi Mikel and Musa.”
Osimhen, who turns 27 in seven days’ time, further indicated his happiness over Wilfred Ndidi made captain and disclosed his readiness to support the new sheriff in town.
Victor Osimhen added: “I am happy he was given the captaincy and for me it is just to support him, all of us, not just the assistants, not just Simon.”
He opined on the character and commitment level of Wilfred Ndidi, pointing out that his teammates will provide the necessary assistance to the Nigeria national team leader.
Osimhen divulged: “Every one of us will support him because he is a good guy on and off the pitch. You know, even on the pitch he gives his all. I think he deserves it and all of us will rally around him to help him on and off the pitch, so I am happy for him.”
Victor Osimhen's position on Wilfred Ndidi toes the line of a popular adage: “a good name is better than riches.”
