The Ivorian international opened the scoring against Bournemouth, heading the ball into an open goal for Manchester United, in his final match before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations.

After a series of shots Diallo was first to a rebounding ball which he then cooly put away with his head, Bournemouth defenders forced to watch along. The goal was as a result of great play from United- a theme that stayed present throughout. This is despite long periods of being behind in the game.

It was only the second goal this season for the young winger. Who has been a regular under Ruben Amorim and is a fan favourite at Old Trafford.

Another African player scored in the game- one of the most in form players in the League this season- Antoine Semenyo. He will not be going to AFCON this season after his nation of Ghana failed to qualify.

It was goals galore in the second half, which saw Bournemouth overturn Manchester United's 2-1 lead given by Diallo and Casemiro. Evanilson and James Tavernier put Bournemouth ahead quickly after the break.

An amazing free kick from Bruno Fernandes leveled things back up for United. Followed quickly by a goal from Cunha to put the Red Devils back ahead. Finally sub Eli Junior Kroupi leveled it for Bournemouth to share the points.

It was also Bryan Mbuemo's final game before departing for AFCON. The Cameroonian had chances during the game but failed to get on the score sheet.

Ivory Coast will be defending their title after winning the competition last time, beating Nigeria in the final in 2024. Back then Diallo was not in the national team, so this would be his first time competing in the tournament.

Ivory Coast play Cameroon, the nation of Manchester United team mate Bryan Mbuemo, Gabon and Mozambique in the group stage of AFCON. The first of these games will be against Mozambique on Christmas Eve.

Diallo will play with former Manchester United and Crystal Palace player Wilfried Zaha. Zaha was also not involved with the last AFCON. These players will hope they can lead the Elephants to a fourth title.
