Manchester City confirmed the arrival of Antoine Semenyo, presenting the Ghanaian forward as their latest addition to the squad. The move sees the winger complete a switch to the Etihad in a deal valued at just over £60 million.

The deal got announced across social media this morning, City’s media team stating, “Antoine Semenyo is a Blue.”

City seal Semenyo signature

While City are known for their technical precision, Guardiola has increasingly valued physicality and transitional threat. These are qualities Semenyo offers in abundance. His high pressing, ball carrying and attacking knowledge to find spaces gives City a great profile to add to their existing wide options.

Semenyo can operate as a winger on both sides or even a second striker next to Haaland. This gives Manchester City freedom if they want to stretch opponents with pace rather than possession. In turn, hopefully leading to more goals for the blues which they have been lacking this season.

Manchester City were not the only club interested in the forward. After his amazing start to the season other top clubs were also eyeing up the Ghanaian. Talks of Liverpool being interested circled after the Mohammed Salah incident with the press. Manchester United also kept a close watch, but City got their man ahead of Manchester rivals.

Semenyo’s journey from academy graduate to Manchester City is a testament to his steady development throughout the football pyramid. His performances for Bournemouth have been standout this season. Scoring 10 goals in 20 games and completing 33 successful dribbles, putting him above 94% of the other forwards and midfielders in the Premier League.

Bournemouth will feel the loss of a player who embodied their high-energy, front-footed attacking style under Andoni Iraola. The loss of their star player will mean that Bournemouth will need to spend the £60 million wisely. Finding a replacement in January could be crucial to Bournemouth’s second half of the season.

With only one win in the last 12 games for Bournemouth they sit in 15th place, not completely out of contention for relegation. This reinforces the need for a replacement.

City, on the other hand have added another weapon to their formidable attack, with the Blues chasing Arsenal for the top spot. Semenyo could be a key asset. A signing that could prove he’s much more influential than some may think.
