Arsenal's Premier League title hopes suffered a major blow as they lost 3-2 to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.

Michael Carrick has now beaten Mikel Arteta twice as Red Devils boss, with his previous success coming in 2021.

After the game, Amad Diallo criticised Arsenal's style of play, claiming that they are overly reliant on set-pieces.

And now, Arsene Wenger has also appeared to suggest that he wasn't happy with the way his former team fared against Manchester United.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha gave Carrick his second win in charge of the club, while Mikel Merino's late strike was a mere consolation after Arsenal went ahead through an own goal from Lisandro Martinez.

Arsenal are still four points ahead of Manchester City, who got their title challenge back on track with a 2-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, Wenger feels Arsenal lacked composure compared to Manchester United, who executed Carrick's game plan perfectly to secure a famous away win.

"The games of Arsenal were more decided by power and fighting on the corner, for example, with the second goal," said Wenger via BeIN Sports.

"The first goal, as well, was not clean play. They gave everything, Arsenal, but lacked a bit, as I said in the first half, the patience and technical cohesion.

"Manchester United showed good build-up play and real cohesion, while Arsenal had more power and fighting spirit, but lacked clean football."

The short answer is no. The Gunners aren't playing the most eye-catching brand of football you're likely to see, but the fact of the matter remains that they have been the best team in the Premier League this season.

The brand of football won't matter to Arteta as long as his players get the job done, which was the case until a week ago, as they've now dropped five points in their last two games.

That said, the Gunners have far too much quality in their squad, so their lack of adventure and inventiveness in the final third is definitely a cause for concern.

Arsenal face Leeds United, Sunderland and Brentford in their next three Premier League games and will fancy their chances of returning to winning ways and extending their lead at the top of the table.

Their run of fixtures looks kind - at least on paper - giving them a golden opportunity to bounce back.
