Douglas Luiz is a wanted man in the January transfer window as the Juventus loanee prepares to change clubs again.

Currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, the Brazilian international emerged as a target for Chelsea earlier this month as Liam Rosenior aims to shore up his squad.

The Blues want a loan deal until the end of the season as Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chelsea do not want the option to sign Luiz permanently in the summer.

And now, it appears as if Aston Villa have entered the race to re-sign the experienced midfielder due to an injury to Youri Tielemans.

Unai Emery's side have enjoyed a stunning Premier League campaign so far as they find themselves just four points behind Arsenal at the summit.

However, in recent weeks, injuries have ravaged his squad, as the likes of Tielemans, Boubacar Kamara and John McGinn are out for the foreseeable future.

Villa have taken emergency action to solve their midfield woes before the transfer deadline, which has led to them making a move for a familiar face.

Romano confirms that an approach has been made to sign Luis, although the nature of the deal remains unclear at this stage.

The Brazilian midfielder has failed to hit the ground running at Nottingham Forest after joining the club on loan from Juventus.

Luiz struggled with a thigh problem earlier this season that kept him out of action for ten games across all competitions.

He has featured just eight times in the Premier League, with only five of them being starts.

The 27-year-old has a wealth of experience in the English top-flight and played the best football of his career at Villa Park before moving to Juventus in the summer of 2024.

Things haven't quite worked out for him, so a short-term move to a familiar environment could be exactly what the doctor ordered to get his career back on track.

Luiz will look to be included in Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, to do so, he needs to stay clear of injuries and also get regular game time under his belt.

He is an experienced campaigner and will keep all of these factors in mind before choosing his next destination, be it Aston Villa or Chelsea.
