Less than 48 hours after Mali were eliminated by Senegal 1-0 in the quarter finals of AFCON 2025, Nene Dorgeles was back in Turkey, helping Fenebarche clinch the Turkish Super Cup final.

But how did that happen? After all, had Mali gone all the way, Dorgeles would still have been part of the national set up right now. Instead, he chose to fly back to Istanbul to help his club win the title - the first trophy of his budding career.

Dorgeles played on Friday, and given the nature of their loss,  it would have been an emotional blow. One would have expected the 23-year old to take the weekend off.

However, he is not like most players. Dorgeles chose not to feel sorry for himself. With a clash against arch-rivals Galatasaray, he wanted to be part of history. An overnight private flight was arranged, soaring across the Mediterranean, carrying a man focused on his next challenge.

Instantly, he was named on the bench for the cup final.

During the game where Fenebarche defeated Galatasaray 2-0 to win the title, Dorgeles came on as a 69th minute substitute. His 22 minutes on the pitch were enough to help the champions clinch the title.

As Nene Dorgeles lifted the Turkish Super Cup the contrast was stark. This incredible feat of logistics and sheer willpower is a powerful demonstration of a competitor’s mindset that commands respect.

Born Dogeles Nene on December 23, 2002 in Kayes, Mali, the 23-year old has experienced rapid progression thanks to a structured development path.

Dorgeles began his professional career in Mali before being scouted into the Red Bull system. He moved to Austria, joining FC Liefering - the feeder club for RB Salzburg in January 2021.

While at Liefering, he played primarily on the right wing, but was also occasionally deployed at center forward or left wing.

Dorgeles also enjoyed a loan stint at FK Austria Wien, which provided him a strong foundation for his breakout move.

He joined Fenerbahce in August 2025 for 18 million pounds, a move that signalled his arrival on a bigger stage.

Internationally, Dorgeles is a key player for Mali, earning his first senior cap in 2022. He has gone on to accumulate 20 caps to date.

He represented Mali in various crucial matches, including the recent AFCON tournament. Playing a total of 171 minutes during the showdown in Morocco.
