After an eventful summer transfer window for Crystal Palace fans and players alike, it looked certain that they were losing their Captain to Liverpool. Marc Guehi had everything sorted for his transfer until it fell through at the last minute.
Since then, he has kept his head down, having already made 31 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions, achieving 7 goal contributions. Many people were certain he was going to run down his contract with Liverpool, and expected to get his signature in the summer of 2026. But with the January transfer window now getting up to speed, Manchester City are set to throw a spanner in the works.
Liverpool is still keen on the England centre-half. Manchester City, though are now in the race. With both teams now racing to secure his services.
The BBC has reported that Guardiola's side have always been admirers of Marc Guehi. With their current injury crisis, with both Dias and now Gvardiol out for the foreseeable future, City is willing to step up the pace for the Englishman.
Liverpool, however, still remained interested, but doubts have arisen if they have the funds available to sign him in January, with the hierarchy originally all but certain they could sign Guehi for free come the end of the season.
Palace is open to the idea of selling their captain this month. They know his leaving is inevitable, so they see it as a possibility of cashing in rather than letting him leave for free.
Reports are all suggesting that with Guehi, who is now free to sign a pre-contractual agreement with overseas clubs in January, could attract real interest. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan are just some of the clubs keen.
Liverpool will be hoping that, after Guehi gave them his word back in the summer, he will honour this commitment if they were to make a move for him.
However, if City decide to make a move and Palace are happy to cash in, we could see him part of Guardiola's side who are chasing Arsenal down for the title.
Both clubs are very likely to explore options during the window, with both needing defensive reinforcements. Reds are unlikely to splash the cash in January, having spent nearly £450m in the summer. Despite this, there are also conversations about Club Brugge's Joel Ordonez.
Manchester City have no financial restraints but are currently prioritising a move for Semenyo.
If Guehi decides to move this month, the citizens look all but certain to get his signature. But if they miss out on him, it will create a free-for-all trying to sign him on a free at the end of the season.
