Mohamed Salah refused to give a post-game interview despite his side's triumph over Zimbabwe in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener.

Egypt came back from behind to pull off a late 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in their first game of the tournament, thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Mohamed Salah.

Zimbabwe took the lead through Prince Dube after 20 minutes. However, Manchester City's Omar Marmoush levelled the scoring after the hour mark.

With the game heading into added time, Salah popped up with a precision half-volleyed strike on the turn to give Egypt three vital points.

The result put Egypt level on points with Hugo Broos' South Africa in Group B as both sides are set to meet on Friday, December 26th.

After the game, Salah appeared in the mixed zone as he was leaving the stadium, but the Liverpool ace did not look interested in giving interviews.

"Not now, it's the first game," Salah joked via Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail.

After apologising to the Liverpool dressing room over his public rant last month, Salah looks determined to bring AFCON home once again.

The 33-year-old seemingly does not want to stir up unnecessary drama once again, especially after Egypt just scraped past Zimbabwe.

Recent reports also confirmed that Salah believes this could be his final participation in an AFCON tournament with Egypt.

The victory could prove to be a huge morale boost for Egypt, who are looking for their first continental silverware since 2010.

Speaking after the game, head coach Hossam Hassan believes the win will improve his team's confidence but called for better finishing.

"I felt we didn't put away our chances early in the game and made life harder for ourselves," Hassan said.

"We knew the games were going to be difficult, but I told the players how important it is to win your first game.

"I promise the fans that the performances will only get better, but we need time," he added.
