Morocco underlined their tournament credentials with a dominant 3–0 win over Zambia on Monday night.

This commanding performance at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium secured top spot in Group A.

This match, often dubbed the Morocco Zambia showdown, was decisive for both teams.

Ayoub El Kaabi scored twice and Brahim Díaz added another as the Atlas Lions booked their place in the AFCON 2025 knockout stages.

They secured a statement win in front of their home crowd.

Morocco took control early, and it didn’t take long for the breakthrough. El Kaabi opened the scoring with a powerful diving header in the 9th minute. He rose between defenders to meet a pinpoint delivery. The Morocco Zambia clash had begun intensely.

The hosts continued to apply pressure, and before half-time Brahim Díaz doubled the lead with a composed finish. This made it three goals in three games for the Real Madrid midfielder at the tournament.

El Kaabi then produced the highlight of the night with a stunning bicycle kick early in the second half.

A VAR check confirmed the effort stood, despite an initial offside flag. Thus, Morocco’s advantage was secure as they dominated the Morocco Zambia encounter.

Morocco also welcomed back Achraf Hakimi from injury. The captain came on as a second-half substitute in his first appearance since earlier in the season. He came close to scoring late on but was denied by a fine save.

The win meant Morocco finished Group A with seven points, unbeaten and ahead of second-placed Mali.

Zambia’s defeat confirmed their elimination, finishing bottom with just two points. The Morocco Zambia match concluded their journey at this tournament.

By topping the group, Morocco will now face one of the four best third-placed teams in the AFCON round of 16.

Their commanding display provided a clear statement of intent. They now transition into the knockout phase in front of their home fans.

For Zambia, the result ended their tournament campaign. It leaves them reflecting on a tough group stage where they were unable to convert chances into wins.
