Newcastle vs PSV preview as both teams will be aiming to progress to the playoff phase with just two games remaining.
With one more game to go after this match, a Newcastle win would place them just outside the top eight with a game against PSG to come. PSV have Bayern Munich to come in the final game, and therefore, a positive result could be very important to secure a place in the playoff round of the competition.
The game will be broadcast through TNT Sports and Discovery+ in the UK. The match will kick off at 8 pm, with coverage beginning at 7 pm.
Newcastle struggled to a 0-0 draw against Wolves in their most recent Premier League game. While they had won three Premier League games in a row before this, they lost 2-0 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, and they got through the FA Cup third round against Brentford on penalties.
Newcastle have only lost three times at St James’ Park this season. Those defeats have come to Barcelona in the Champions League, Arsenal and Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Anthony Gordon has scored five goals in the Champions League this season, but has only scored one goal in his last six matches, and that was from the penalty spot in the FA Cup.
PSV only have three defeats overall this season, their first against Telstar in the league and two in the Champions League against USG and Atletico Madrid.
The Dutch side have won two standout games in the Champions League this season, with an incredible 4-1 win at Anfield in their last trip to England and a 6-2 win over Italian Champions Napoli.
Couhaib Driouech has scored three Champions League goals, with two coming at Anfield and one against Napoli. He also scored two recently in the Dutch Cup.
Guus Til is the second-highest scorer in the Eredivisie with 11 goals. He hasn’t scored in the last three league games.
Dan Burn is back in training, but the match against PSV will be too early for the defender.
Newcastle predicted lineup (4-3-3): Pope, Miley, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton, Barnes, Wissa, Gordon
Ricardo Pepi has broken his arm and will be out for several months. This leaves PSV short up front as he joined Alassane Plea and Myron Boadu on the injury list. Sergino Dest is also a doubt leading up to the game.
PSV predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Kovar, Sildilla, Schouten, Gasiorowski, Salah-Eddine, Mauro Junior, Veerman, Man, Perisic, Til, Driouech
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Eddie Howe, as quoted by The Mag, said: “We have to win the two games in front of us, starting with tomorrow.
“It’s a great game for us. PSV are a very good team. I’ve been impressed in the research we’ve done on them and the way they’ve been playing. It’s set up to be a great game.”
