Nigeria, meanwhile, secured a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique, and in doing so advanced comfortably to the quarter-finals of AFCON 2025.
The Super Eagles dominated from the start and delivered a performance full of pace, precision, and clinical finishing.
Early Dominance and First-Half Goals
Nigeria were on top from the opening whistle, and almost immediately signalled their intent. Within the first two minutes, Victor Osimhen saw an effort ruled out for offside, a moment that nevertheless set the tone for what was to come.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 20th minute, when Ademola Lookman curled home from Akor Adams’ cutback.
From there, the momentum only grew, and just five minutes later Osimhen made amends by doubling Nigeria’s advantage.
Alex Iwobi’s incisive run through midfield released Lookman, whose cross deflected slightly off Adams before falling to Osimhen.
Mozambique struggled to contain Nigeria’s relentless pressure and offered little threat going forward in the first half.
Second-Half Control and Late Goals
Nigeria continued to dominate after the break. Osimhen scored his second of the night early in the second half, tapping in at the back post from another clever delivery by Lookman.
Akor Adams, meanwhile, capped a fine individual display in the 75th minute, as he fired in Nigeria’s fourth goal following yet more excellent work from Lookman.
The Super Eagles could have scored more, but the 4–0 result reflected their superiority throughout the match.
Mozambique, making their first knockout-stage appearance, struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace and movement.
Nigeria’s Perfect AFCON Record
With this win, Nigeria have now won all four of their AFCON 2025 matches. The Super Eagles have scored 12 goals and conceded just four, maintaining a perfect record in the tournament so far.
Their balance between attack and defence has been impressive, giving them momentum and confidence heading into the knockout rounds.
What’s Next for Nigeria?
With the win, Nigeria advance to the quarter-finals. They will face the winner of Algeria or DR Congo in Saturday’s tie in Marrakech.
The Super Eagles head into the next round with confidence. Key players like Osimhen, Lookman, and Adams are in form, and the team’s attacking and defensive balance looks strong.
Nigeria will aim to maintain this momentum as they pursue AFCON 2025 glory.
