Senegal and Egypt are going to take the stage on Wednesday 14th January at the Grande Stade de Tangier.

This highly anticipated fixture is a semi-final clash with a shared history of highly contested matches.

The last time both nations met in an AFCON tournament was during the finals in 2021 where Senegal won on penalties. Overall, it will be their 16th meeting as they compete for a place in the semi-finals. Senegal come in strong form, but Egypt’s experience and key players means today’s match will be a full battle.

For viewers in the UK, Channel 4 will broadcast the match live as part of their AFCON 2025 coverage, with kick off scheduled for 19:00pm GMT.

Across Africa, the match will be shown live on beIN Sports and SuperSport.

Fans in the United States can watch live on the beIN Sports channel.

Mohamed Salah

Egypt’s main man remains their biggest match-winner and a constant threat throughout their AFCON campaign. Having scored the winning goal to help his nation progress into the semi-finals, his pace, sharp movement, and clinical finishing allow him to control games. Whilst his experience on the biggest stages gives Egypt belief in high-pressure moments, Senegal’s defence will need to limit his space if they are to control the game.

Sadio Mane

Mané remains Senegal’s key attacking threat at AFCON 2025. Once teammates, Salah and Mane face each other once again, as loyalties remain to their countries. Sadio Mane’s movement, creativity, and ability to deliver in big moments make him very important against Egypt’s disciplined defence.

Idrissa Gana Gueye

Gueye’s energy and positional awareness in midfield will be crucial. His ability to disrupt play and control the speed of the game gives Senegal balance in high-pressure situations.

This Semi-final is going to be tight and tactical. Senegal will look to dominate possession, while Egypt are likely to stay compact and threaten on the counter-attack.

With both sides experienced at this stage of the tournament, the outcome could hinge on a single moment of quality.

Senegal coach Pape Thiaw has a near full-strength squad and is likely to name the same and familiar players that have performed consistently throughout their AFCON 2025 campaign.

Edouard Mendy, Krepin Diatta, Abdoulaye Seck, Moussa Niakhaté, Ismail Jakobs, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Pape Gueye, Ismaïla Sarr, Iliman Ndiaye, Sadio Mané, Nicolas Jackson.

Egypt coach Hossam Hassan will lean on his side’s experience and defensive organisation as they aim to frustrate Senegal and strike decisively when opportunities arise.

Mohamed El Shenawy, Mohamed Hany, Ahmed Hegazy, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Ahmed Fatouh, Hamdi Fathi, Tarek Hamed, Mostafa Mohamed, Omar Marmoush, Mahmoud Trézéguet, Mohamed Salah.
