In the very next minute, Diarra made another save to block Pathé Ciss’ header.

Sadio Mané remained a constant threat throughout the game, causing Mali plenty of problems, even though he didn’t find the back of the net. His performance more than justified his presence on the pitch.

For Mali, their goalkeeper’s alertness and physicality kept the team in contention and gave them hope, but it wasn’t enough to secure progression. In a tournament where small mistakes carry huge consequences, this time it proved costly. Despite the resilience and determination Mali showed throughout AFCON 2025, they ultimately fell short against a clinical Senegal side.

Senegal delivered a controlled and effective performance to beat Mali and reach the AFCON 2025 semi‑finals. They took the lead through Iliman Ndiaye’s clinical finish inside the first half and then maintaining possession, and managing the game smartly even as fouls and battles occurred during this highly anticipated Senegal vs Mali AFCON 2025 quarter-final showdown.

Their defence was solid with more tackles won on their side, and brought full attack with them this afternoon.

Senegal are due to play in the Semi-finals but are yet to know of which nation they will play. Stakes are much higher and only one nation can come out on top.
