Andre Onana looks set to return to Manchester United at the end of the season when his loan spell with Trabzonspor ends.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper endured a torrid time at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim before being flogged off on loan to Turkey.

Senne Lammens and Atlay Bayindir are the two senior goalkeepers at Manchester United at the moment. However, at the end of the season, Onana will rejoin their ranks, presenting them with a problem to solve.

As the Red Devils continue to look for suitors to offload the former Ajax man, reports from Italy suggest Inter Milan could offer him an unlikely escape route.

Onana signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2023 after a successful stint with Inter Milan.

He reached the final of the UEFA Champions League that year, before losing out to Manchester City.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper made a name for himself not just for his shot-stopping, but for his ability with the ball at his feet.

However, at Manchester United, he made a series of blunders that led to his eventual loan move to Trabzonspor.

And now, it appears as if Inter Milan could look to sign him back as Yann Sommer might be on his way out of the club in the summer.

FC Inter News report that Onana's agent is currently in Milan, although it remains unclear if it's related to a potential transfer.

However, the report does state that he holds an excellent relationship with Inter, who are likely to be on the lookout for a market opportunity after Sommer's eventual departure.

Under Amorim, Onana eventually lost his place to Bayindir, which was a clear sign that he wasn't a part of his plans.

Since joining in the summer, Lammens has delivered a string of impressive displays at Manchester United. More importantly, the Belgian goalkeeper hasn't made any high-profile errors and has established himself as a reliable presence between the sticks.

With Bayindir also at the club, there seems to be no way back for Onana, who will likely leave the club permanently in the summer.

Manchester United paid £43.8m to secure his services from Inter. They are unlikely to get such a fee for Onana again but will try to recoup as much as possible to bring the curtain down on his turbulent spell at Old Trafford.
