Wilfred Ndidi has expressed that the Nigeria national team’s focus is fixated on their last-16 fixture with the Mambas of Mozambique.

Quizzed on how Eric Chelle's side plan to navigate their next encounter. This followed a post-match chat with the press after the Super Eagles’ 3-1 victory over Uganda.

Wilfred Ndidi insisted that the Nigerian contingent in Morocco are not “thinking” about how they fared against the Cranes of Uganda. He emphasised that all attention is directed to their assignment in the round of 16.

Given how things played out at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after they won all their group matches, Ndidi said: “We’re not thinking about what happened in 2021.

“That’s in the past. We are not thinking of this game (Uganda). We are thinking about the next game, which is more important.”

Tunisia eliminated Nigeria in the last 16 of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. This happened after Maduka Okoye failed to properly deal with an effort from outside the eighteen-yard area by Youssef Msakni.

Additionally, Alex Iwobi received his marching orders six minutes after the hour mark. Nigeria was unable to consolidate on their delightful group-stage showing under caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen.

Ndidi further shared that they are taking every game in isolation. They are putting the best preparations in place, given the upcoming games are of huge importance to Nigeria.

Moreover, the Besiktas midfielder received questions about the areas that the Super Eagles need to improve. He categorically stated that the Nigeria national team needs improvement in all departments.

Nigeria Yet To Lose Since Wilfred Ndidi Became Captain

Nigeria are yet to lose a game since Wilfred Ndidi officially became captain of the Nigeria national team.

The 29-year-old sat on the bench for the entirety of Eric Chelle's side’s outing with Uganda. He had started their first and second matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria defeated Tanzania 2-1 in their opening game of the tournament, before claiming a close-shave victory over Tunisia.

Ndidi should return to the starting XI for their upcoming last-16 clash with Southern African nation Mozambique on Monday, January 5, 2026.
